Hi!
I'd like to point you towards 'Equaliser' the fantastic new project from songwriting collective Hen Hoose founded by Tamara Schlesinger (MALKA).
Hen Hoose is a collaborative female and non-binary collective of songwriters, composers, performers, and producers with the shared goal of challenging gender inequality within the music industry. In recent times it has become increasingly difficult to sustain a career in music and even more for some as inequality within the industry leads to male-dominated line-ups and playlists and fewer paid opportunities and radio play for non-male artists. Hen Hoose is actively tackling this problem by bringing together a group of female and non-binary people at all stages of the creative process to create this project and push it both as a commercial album and as a collection of tracks for use in TV, film, and other media.
Equaliser is a multigenre experience with an overarching Indie flair and sense of creative freedom to the tracklisting. The connecting factor that makes this project a success is the great songwriting and focused approach to the individual tracks. Each song sounds like a wonderful self-contained moment with an effort clearly made to make each song as impactful and memorable as the last one. The strong overall vision and the fact that multiple collaborators appear on multiple songs throughout the release helps to cohesively bring together all the tracks into one fantastic listening experience despite moving between genres.
There's a plethora of inspirations and genre touchstones on this release but to summarise the styles of the tracks they include lovingly produced Soft Rock & Indie Rock, textured Indie Pop & Art Pop, sweet Electronic Pop & Dance, alternative Hip Hop & R&B, and intimate Folk tracks. The vocal performances are all on point and the production is tasteful, punchy, and lush throughout.
